The birth of the Dauphin Francis was cause for great celebration, not only for his parents but also for the kingdom of France. After suffering three years with his brother in Spain as a political hostage, he grew up to be a fine young man. He was extremely popular and considered the greatest hope for the future of the Valois dynasty.
