Becoming Marie Antoinette Movie
Hello all!
Hopefully this topic can revive some of the activity on this forum.
If any of you have read Juliet Grey's trilogy on Marie Antoinette then you might know that Sony Pictures has bought to rights to make her first novel into a movie. It should be interesting how this turns out...
Although I wasn't the biggest fan of this series, as I felt her portrayals were inaccurate, I will be watching the film when it comes out and am curious to see who is cast in the title role as well as who will play the other characters.

Re: Becoming Marie Antoinette Movie
Yuuuup, here's the link to the novel's Official Facebook Page where they made the announcement.
My first thought was --- so, it seems Sony did not purchased the trilogy but only the first novel, Becoming Marie-Antoinette. You know, the one that focuses on Antoinette's transfer from Austria to France and her difficulties fitting in with the mechanisms of the court. You know, the one that I swear we just saw in theaters ten years ago. In fact, if I recall correctly, somewhere on this very forum we complained about how the cover of the second novel:
Looked very much like promotional images from the 2006 movie:
The tone and marketing of the novels relied heavily on the audience's familiarity with Coppola's 2006 biopic. In copying the film and subsequently making a film of themselves, the whole thing has a whiff of creative inbreeding. Sometimes when you make a copy of a copy of a copy you get something not as good as the original.
But I might just be being petty. Coppola's film had a myriad of flaws itself and Grey's characterization of Antoinette does appear to have more nuance than 'misunderstood teenager' so perhaps this will be a good thing.
