Marie of Guise was the daughter of Claude, Duke of Guise and Antoinette of Bourbon. She first married the Duc de Longueville. When she was widowed, King Francis I of France suggested she marry King James V when his first wife, Madeleine of Valois died. Marie is the mother of Mary Queen of Scots.
