Catherine Howard, Queen of England

Post  Susan Abernethy on Tue Oct 02, 2012 8:36 pm

Catherine Howard was probably the most beautiful of King Henry VIII's six wives. She was his fifth wife and just a teenager when she married the aging King.

This is one of the few pictures of Katherine Howard which is known to be genuinely of her and not anoyher Tudor lady.

Catching up from being away on vacation.
It's to my understanding that portrait was long misidentified to be Katherine in the initial post.

I don't think ANY of the portraits which are traditionally labelled as Katherine are really Katherine. I wonder if an oil painting of her even exists anymore. Apparently Henry had all pictures of her destroyed. Only that sketch by Holbein remains.
