Here's a novel for younger readers about Madame Royale: The Lacemaker and the Princess by Kimberly B. Bradley. A young lacemaker Isabelle, who lives in the town Versailles, becomes a playmate to Madame Royale. It's a well-written and balanced story. The early days of the French Revolution comes towards the end of the novel. I enjoyed it!
